Update

Surgery on my right thumb is scheduled for next Thursday (haven't received the packet yet so don't know the exact time). We are now at maximum alligator status at work, and I don't even get to take effective pain relievers for the next week. (No NSAIDs allowed. Cries.)

Interesting times...

I could not have survived the pain in my shoulder during the three years it got worse and worse without ibuprofen. (Naproxen didn't do as much and they gave me another one that was an instant acid stomach. I gave that up before it did damage. Still have it.) If you are unable to take NSAIDS how do you stand it? I can send a warm and sympathetic thought, but I don't expect it will help much. At least the surgery is scheduled now and coming up soon.

Dancing on alligator muzzles is very tiring. I remember that.

Lots of whining. Lots and lots. :D And the prospect of better drugs starting Thursday evening.

Which reminds me of something a psychiatrist friend of my mother's once said to me in a non-medical context. "People in severe pain who receive narcotic pain relievers do not get high, they get normal." They are therefor a low risk for addiction if allowed to control their own dosages. If you hurt, take the pain killers. Massive amounts of caffeine help with the drowsiness, but driving is ill-advised as nothing helps the attention drift...

Oh, yeah, I'll get the good stuff after surgery. I'm just can't take anything that messes with clotting for the week before... which leaves acetaminophen. Feh.

Ack, that's today. I'm sure you're at the hospital by now. Well, I hope that everything goes well, and that the surgery does what it is supposed to and you get your thumbs back. I'll be thinking of you.
